Artichoke Flower

One of my passions is gardening. When the flowers or vegetables start flowering or producing, one of the most pleasurable ways to spend the day is to take my easel out into the garden and paint. I deliberately waited until this artichoke flowered so that I could do a Plein Air painting of it, while it was still vital and growing. I chose to use pastels for this particular piece because I wanted to work quickly to keep it fresh, and to use line to show the plant’s movement and energy.

This painting was done in pastel, and while the original is no longer available, beautiful prints on canvas or paper can be ordered by following the link below. There are also items such as tote bags and mugs available for purchase.
